PISCO Principal Investigator Jack Barth
PISCO Hypoxia research of Principal Investigator Jack Barth and colleague Francis Chan (Oregon State University) have been highlighted by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Science Nation, a new science video series commissioned by the NSF Office of Legislative and Public Affairs.
Barth has been monitoring hypoxic zones that appear each summer of the Oregon and Washington coasts using autonomous instruments such as Undersea Gliders and Remotely Operated vehicles in a project that has partnered with: Oregon Fish and Wildlife, Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary (OCNMS) and others.
Impacts of this research include helping map out sustainable use of the ocean and assessing the potential productivity of fisheries. It also may be illustrating the effects of climate change on ocean conditions in near real time scenarios.
